Egg presents… Ambivalent (minus), Lee van Dowski (cadenza) & Leon (Viva Music)
Friday 13th July | 10pm – 8am | egg London
For our next outing with egg presents… we have three techno and house stars of the highest order to take centre stage in room one for a very special night…
Ambivalent: An integral part of Richie Hawtin’s minus collective, Kevin “Ambivalent” McHugh first stepped into the industry with a series of parties in the base of the Brooklyn Bridge in 2002; fusing house and techno with experimental multimedia and urban installations. If one person embodied these principles through music it was Richie Hawtin. The pair were soon working together, co-producing the Plastikman show at Mutek in 2004. The planning process meant spending the best part of a year in Berlin during which time Kevin assimilated into the scene. Energized, he returned to New York and besides co-presenting the Nerd Tank on East Village Radio, he began working on his own compositions, which quickly led to a debut release on Camea’s Clink label in 2006. His event organising activities also intensified, buoyed by the network of DJs and producers he’d met in Berlin. By 2008, the gravitational pull had become too strong to ignore and he returned to Berlin, hooking up with the Minus community and embarking on a non-stop schedule of live shows and DJ gigs. The rest they as they say is history.... We very much look forward to him heading room one…
Lee van Dowski: The very name exudes style and intrigue—a country lord, perhaps, who at night throws open the manor gates to host all-night bacchanals legendary for their wine and song. And though the French-born, Geneva-based artist may not have a manor to his name, the rest isn't far off the mark. Born Renaud Lewandowski, Lee has earned a reputation as a kind of dark prince of uplifting electronic music—a trickster who spreads his mischief via long, undulating DJ sets and bewilderingly funky releases. Part of Luciano’s Cadenza family, van Dowski more than knows how to get the dancefloor moving… "Technically, I like to surprise myself," he says. "I like to do a long, smooth mix, and then a radical one… It's important for me to try telling a story, so of course your technique is another way of doing that, along with the music itself. With time and with age, maybe, the tempo really decreased—I think I play a bit deeper now than five or six years ago. But I still love a good, bouncy track if it's not too aggressive, and if the energy serves the groove instead of breaking it."
Leon: Our final guest from Italy, a man that has been making major waves in the house scene since his breakthrough at the beginning of 2009. Bursting onto the scene with a bang, LEON has carved out quite a reputation in such a short period of time., and this looks set to grow and grow. Part of Steve Lawler’s Viva Music collective, Leon has help reinvent a house sound, with the likes of Steve Lawler, Luciano, Carol Cox, MANDY, Loco Dice, Ricardo Villalobos, Tiefschwarz & Matthias Tanzmann all fans of his work. His sets always ignite the dancefloor, we cant wait for him to return to Kings X for another sonic tonic.
Elsewhere, London’s Deliverance collective host the terrace… This is one egg presents… that we are super excited about, we hope you can join us for this one!
